Learning across the curriculum
The curriculum is dynamic, creative and relevant while still ensuring children learn key skills. We teach all National Curriculum subjects through unique Fairley House School (FHS) schemes of work. Occupational and Speech and Language Therapy play a key role in the teaching and learning at FHS and the schemes of work are written to incorporate close links between subjects.

Enrichment of the curriculum

During the year the children experience a variety of theme days. These incorporate a range of visitors and diverse, exciting experiences for children. Recent activities have included World Book Week, Maths Day, Victorian Day and Remembrance Day. Such days are used to bring the curriculum to life.

English
English has a high priority in our curriculum. All children are taught in small ability groups so individual needs can be carefully addressed. Spelling is taught through carefully structured multi-sensory activities following the FHS Spelling Scheme. Spelling lessons are designed to be interesting,  enjoyable and memorable for all children and incorporate activities that allow pupils to use visual, auditory, and kinaesthetic approaches to learning. However, we regard spelling to be only one aspect of the writing and composition process and the children also experience a wealth of writing opportunities through which they develop their wider literacy skills.
