Old Fairleyans from the 80s

James Hanscombeleft FHS in 1984 to go to Bredon School. He says “I am no longer driving a white van I've upgraded to a grey one!!! I am still running my landscape gardening business as well as buying and selling properties or renting them out, whichever is the most profitable at the time”. James says he is very happy with life in general. He is married with 3 children.

Johanna Kalli (now Cuthbertson) went to St Anne's Convent when she left FHS in 1985 and then to St Augustine's Priory, both in Ealing. After leaving school she went to East Berkshire College, Langley to study Childcare. She gained an NNEB and worked in several nursery including ‘Teddies' in Twickenham. She has a nine month old son Archie. Johanna's lasting memory of FHS was of Mr Romanov, she said, “He was one of those teachers you want to work with. At my later schools you felt that some of the teachers just couldn't be bothered.” If you would like to contact Johanna email me. CL

Matthew Dixon (1986) spent 3 years at Edington then went to Grenville College. After that he went to University in Liverpool where he studied Geology and Geography. He then worked in Environmental Creative Conservation Energy networks. Earlier Matthew had been to a Careers Advice consultant who had suggested joining the police force so at this point he decided to give it a try. Matthew studied at Hendon and he is now a Police Constable stationed at Notting Hill. Matthew feels that if his dyslexia hadn't been spotted early, causing him to be sent to Fairley House he doesn't how he could have managed.

Keith Graham (1987) went to Westbrook Hay for two years and loved it. He then moved on to Framlingham School but after a year moved nearer to home to Albany College where he gained 5 GCEs. After this he went on to Stanmore College where he got 3 A levels. Keith's first job was in advertising telesales and from there he went on to sell photocopiers. He now works in ‘near shoring' – which is consulting companies on how to significantly reduce their operational costs through clients adopting and implementing a Nearshoring strategy on their back office and IT services. Keith tells me that Nearshoring is where an organisation transfers a business function to a lower cost country often within the EU. Along the way, he has learnt to sail, enjoys racing yachts and dinghies, and indulged in his love of sports cars. He is married and lives in North London. Keith says never let anything or anyone hold you back. He is proof that determination pays off!

Elliot Lawrence (1986) went to Millfield after he left FHS. From Millfield he went to University College London and the Hospital for Tropical Diseases where he studied and obtained a total of three degrees including a masters.

Caine Stringer (1987) went to Ravenscroft, in Barnet after FHS. For his first job he worked in a gym and he is now a driving instructor. He realises that going to FHS was a great help, but one of his most vivid memories was when he was in Miss Pierson's class when it got burnt out one weekend. Caine is no longer in touch with any of his old classmates but would love to get in touch with Nick Finburgh again.

Lucy Travis left FHS in 1988 to go to Warminster School. On leaving school she went to Portsmouth University then started work at The Department For Environment Food and Rural Affairs and for Raleigh International. She would love to get in touc h with anyone she knew at FHS which “completely changed my life”. Most fun memory....playing bumper cars in Hyde Park and going to Hindleap, lunch breaks in Hyde Park especially when it snowed...Remember "Star of the week!" Lucy has also been actively involved in Charity work as a volunteer for Raleigh International, She loves her job at ‘Business In the Community'. “In between travelling I hold down a very interesting job! “

Charlotte Park (Charlie) went to Stonar School in 1989 then went to Westminster City College where she studied Art Theatre. She later joined the Battersea Arts Centre and was part of the YPT group Theatre where she had 7 acting roles in professionalproductions. Her first job was as an Office Coordinator for an estate agent, she also did some modelling. She now works as aself-employed Private PA with some celebrity clients. Charlie remembers the people at FHS with great affection “They were all great, I got on better with them than at any of the other schools I went to”.

Here is a photo of Charlie at our reunion talking to Mrs Hamilton Fairley.

Alexi Vaigncourt-Strallen left FHS in 1989 to go to Edgarley Hall (Millfield Junior School). She then went to Stonar School with Charlie (see above) and after that to South Bank University. She says “I am working for L
