At our recent Parents' and Professionals' Evening Professor Brian Butterworth, the UK's leading authority on Dyscalculia, gave a talk entitled ‘Learning Arithmetic or Not…Insights from Neuroscience'.
Brian Butterworth is Professor of Cognitive Neuropsychology at University College London and founding editor of the academic journal Mathematical Cognition. He is a renowned author of many books and publications on Dyscalculia including The Mathematical Brain.
His talk highlighted the great advances in our understanding of the brain in recent years. He described some of the research involved and how it can be applied in educational practice, especially in learning, or failing to learn arithmetic.
Prior to his talk, Professor Butterworth's presented fifteen OCR graduates with their certificates.
